Not that I agree with most of what's listed, but I might as well try one or the other before I go mad.
Check out the link for I did a Phd and did NOT go mad
Its the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine (sort of)
So, in summary...
Do not just blithely start doing a PhD because you can't think of anything better to do -- that's what Masters degrees are for.
Just because you sailed through your undergraduate degree, do not expect to do the same with a PhD.
Do not expect to enjoy doing a PhD.
Do expect to go mad.
If you do enjoy your PhD you're probably mad already.
If you finish you can tell people that you really have done something that's big and clever.
Three years is a long time to do something you really, really hate and your life is finite. If you're really not a happy bunny mid-PhD consider dropping it -- worse things happen at sea.
Make sure you get full support from your department and complain if you don't.
Try to have some sort of functional life outside your PhD, although this can be surprisingly difficult.
If all else fails, eat chocolate.
Eat chocolate anyway.

WHO/Europe | Policy
Six key areas of the Action Plan
The Action Plan sets goals and targets for the various health challenges and identifies six areas for integrated action in individual Member States and at regional level:
- supporting a healthy start;
- ensuring a safe, healthy and sustainable food supply;
- providing comprehensive information and education to consumers;
- taking integrated action to address related determinants – such as physical activity, alcohol consumption, drinking water and the environment;
- strengthening nutrition and food safety in the health sector;
- monitoring, evaluation and research.

lets start over
5 Points about me
1. I am a Phd Student at Bradford university
2. I am currently doing a philosophy course and a research methods course
3. This blog will be my reflective diary and so forth
4. I will look at strategies in health care policies for countries and compare them.
5. It will start off with Vitamin D , cause and effect, healtheconomic, health education, health promotion, come up with a healthcare strategy after comparing different strategies and scoping it to a specific country.
The Dr who gave us a writing skills presentation today used Prezi today which looked awesome, but had a few glitches when it came to zooming into documents and trying to read from them.

Planning a health Policy
Chapter 4 in "an introduction to health" lists:
The six steps to any planning :
1) knowing where you are
2) deciding (quantitatively) where this is possible, where you want to go and how to get there;
3)deciding how far you can hope to get towards your target in a period of time (5-10 years)
4) trying to get there in the time period
5)regulare evaluation to see
-how far you got
-where you are not on target
-how you can do better in the future
6)amending the implementation plan
Random thoughts and conversations throught out the days :
1) more educational programs in schools and for parents (ventillation and the consequences of having bacteria in your ac / molds in ur ventillation systems) OPEN YOUR WINDOWS PEOPLE!
2) Does Vitamin D penetrate windows ?
3) What is the deciding factor to change a behaviour , is it emotional? social? or economical? Values and beliefs maybe?
4) The sunshine club at the Wid and Walid Library. (Must plan)

A special focus on Vitamin D its benefits and likely consequential results from its abscence. soon.

October 2010
October is about to end, philosophy and research methods 4 week through.
Questions that come to my mind are :
When am i going to meet my supervisors? Do I have the list of questions ready to be discussed. Manage your supervisor they say, i wonder what they mean.
Today's lecture was about Ethics.
What if my research ends up being used by the wrong people to promote issues i dont agree with!
on a side note, ontology, epistemology and the epistomological theories ... to be continued
